Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation and Reactivation: Reactivation

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings and notes at the beginning of the deactivation procedure.
  1. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the driver side safety belt retractor pretensioner floor electrical connector.

  2. Connect the driver side safety belt retractor pretensioner electrical connector.

  3. Install the driver side B-pillar lower trim panel.

  4. Install the driver side front and rear door scuff plates.

  5. NOTE: Position the safety belt D-ring to its highest point.

  6. Install the driver side B-pillar upper trim panel.
  7. Install the driver side B-pillar weather-stripping.
  8. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the driver seat side air bag floor electrical connector.

  9. Connect the driver seat side air bag electrical connector.
    1. Connect the driver seat side air bag electrical connector.
    2. Slide and engage the driver seat side air bag electrical connector locking clip.

  10. Install the driver seat side air bag electrical connector onto the connector bracket under the driver seat.

  11. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the passenger side safety belt retractor pretensioner electrical connector.

  12. Connect the passenger side safety belt retractor pretensioner electrical connector.

  13. Install the passenger side B-pillar lower trim panel.

  14. Install the passenger side front and rear door scuff plates.

  15. NOTE: Position the safety belt D-ring to its highest point.

  16. Install the passenger side B-pillar upper trim panel.
  17. Install the passenger side B-pillar weather-stripping.
  18. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the passenger seat side air bag floor electrical connector.

  19. Connect the passenger seat side air bag electrical connector.
    1. Connect the passenger seat side air bag electrical connector.
    2. Slide and engage the passenger seat side air bag electrical connector locking clip.

  20. Install the passenger seat side air bag electrical connector onto the connector bracket under the passenger seat.

  21. Connect the battery ground cable.
  22. Position the front seats rearward.
  23. WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.
    Please see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS to determine location of the front air bag sensors.
    The side air bag sensors are located at or near the base of the B-pillar.
    To deplete the backup power supply energy, Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute to allow for the depletion of the restraint system backup power supply. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
  24. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute to allow for the depletion of the restraint system backup power supply.
  25. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the passenger air bag electrical connector.

  26. Connect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
    1. Reach into the glove box opening toward the center of the instrument panel, under the cross-car beam and connect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
    2. Slide and engage the passenger air bag module electrical connector locking clip.

  27. Install the glove compartment. For additional information, see GLOVE COMPARTMENT .
  28. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the clockspring electrical connector.

  29. Connect the clockspring electrical connector at the base of the steering column.

  30. Position the steering column opening reinforcement and install the screws.

  31. Tighten the two driver-side instrument panel tunnel brace bolts.
    • Reposition the carpet.

  32. Position the heater duct and install the screw.

  33. Position the hood latch release cable and handle assembly to the steering column opening reinforcement and install the screws.

  34. Connect the electrical connectors to the switches in the lower steering column opening finish panel.

  35. Install the lower steering column opening finish panel to the instrument panel.
    1. Position the lower steering column opening finish panel to the instrument panel and push in, seating the retaining clips.
    2. Install the screws.

  36. Connect the battery ground cable.
  37. WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
  38. With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, see SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
  39. Check the active restraint system for correct operation.
