Removal & Installation

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. On V8 and V10 models, remove A/C compressor to gain access. Unplug Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor wire connector from engine harness. See Fig 1. Remove CKP sensor mounting screws. Remove CKP sensor. To install, reverse removal procedure. On 4.0L engines, ensure CKP wear tabs are contacting sensor wheel. After a few engine rotations proper clearance will be achieved.
CAUTION:
When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery.
