Pinpoint Test F: The Power Lumbar Is Inoperative- Driver

  1. F1 CHECK THE LUMBAR MOTOR OPERATION 
    WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
    NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.
    NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
    NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
      WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.
    • For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following:
    • Actuate the lumbar control switch to the INFLATE position.
    • Does the lumbar compressor run? 

    Yes  : GO to F2.

    No  : GO to  F3.

  2. F2 CHECK THE AIRFLOW FROM THE LUMBAR MOTOR 
    • Disconnect the lumbar adjusting hose from the lumbar motor.
    • Actuate the lumbar control switch to the INFLATE position while feeling for air at the motor connection.
    • Is air felt at the lumbar motor hose connection? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new lumbar adjusting pad. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    No  : INSTALL a new lumbar motor. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  3. F3 CHECK CIRCUIT 517 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Lumbar Control Switch C361.
    • Measure the voltage between lumbar control switch C361-2, circuit 517 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : GO to F4.

    No  : VERIFY the battery junction box (BJB) circuit breaker 601 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 517 (BK/WH). TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  4. F4 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Lumbar Motor C366.
    • Measure the resistance between lumbar motor C366-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to F5.

    No  : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  5. F5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LUMBAR MOTOR 
    • Connect: Lumbar Control Switch.
    • Measure the voltage between lumbar motor C366-1, circuit 1094 (PK), harness side and C366-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side while pressing the lumbar control switch INFLATE button.

    • Measure the voltage between lumbar motor C366-2, circuit 1097 (BN), harness side and C366-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side while pressing the lumbar control switch DEFLATE button.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new lumbar motor. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    No  : GO to F6.

  6. F6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1094 (PK) AND CIRCUIT 1097 (BN) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Lumbar Control Switch C361.
    • Measure the resistance between lumbar control switch C361-1, circuit 1094 (PK), harness side and lumbar motor C366-1, circuit 1094 (PK), harness side; and between lumbar control switch C361-3, circuit 1094 (PK), harness side and lumbar motor C366-1, circuit 1094 (PK), harness side.

    • Measure the resistance between lumbar control switch C361-7, circuit 1097 (BN), harness side and lumbar motor C366-2, circuit 1097 (BN), harness side.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to E7.

    No  : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  7. F7 CHECK CIRCUIT 1094 (PK) AND CIRCUIT 1097 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between lumbar motor C366-1, circuit 1094 (PK), harness side and ground; and between lumbar motor C366-2, circuit 1097 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to F8.

    No  : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  8. F8 CHECK CIRCUIT 1094 (PK) AND CIRCUIT 1097 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between lumbar motor C366-1, circuit 1094 (PK), harness side and ground; and between lumbar motor C366-2, circuit 1097 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present on either circuit? 

    Yes  : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    No  : INSTALL a new lumbar control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
