Pinpoint Test B:The Parking Aid Is Inoperative

  1. B1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED PARKING AID MODULE DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SELF-TESTS 
    • Check for recorded parking aid module DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • Are any DTCs recorded? 
    • Yes  : If DTC C1700 or C1703 GO to  B2.

      If DTC C1984, GO to 36.

      If DTC B1299, GO to  B10.

      If DTC B2844, GO to  B12.

      If DTC C1985, GO to  B13.

      If DTC B1627, GO to  B15.

      If DTC C1992, GO to  B18.

    • No  : GO to  B21.
  2. B2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT 
    • Apply the parking brake.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Select REVERSE.
    • Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), component side and ground with the connector connected.

    • Is the voltage greater than 8 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B4.
    • No  : GO to  B3.
  3. B3 CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014a.
    • Disconnect: LH Parking Aid Sensor C4192.
    • Disconnect: RH Parking Aid Sensor C4193.
    • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), harness side and the LH parking aid sensor C4192-3, circuit 7-GN20 (YE/RD), harness side; and between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), harness side and the RH parking aid sensor C4193-3, circuit 7-GN19 (YE), harness side.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B22.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. B4 CHECK THE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-3, circuit 9-GN1 (BN/RD), harness side and the LH parking aid sensor C4192-2, circuit 9-GN20 (BN/RD), harness side; and between the parking aid module C4014a-3, circuit 9-GN1 (BN/RD), harness side, and the RH parking aid sensor C4193-2, circuit 9-GN19 (BN), harness side.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B5.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. B5 CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the parking aid sensor harness side and the parking aid module, harness side; and between the parking aid sensor, harness side and ground as follows:

      C4193-1 C4014a-7 8-GN19 (WH)
      C4192-1 C4014a-6 8-GN20 (WH/RD)

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms between the parking aid sensor and the parking aid module, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the parking aid sensor and ground? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new parking aid sensor. REFER TO PARKING AID SENSOR  in this article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B6 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-GN21 (YE/BU) FOR VOLTAGE 
      • Apply the parking brake.
      • Key in ON position.
      • Select REVERSE.
      • Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4901a-14, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), component side and ground with the connector connected.

      • Is the voltage greater than 8 volts? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B8.
      • No  : GO to  B7.
    • B7 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-GN21 (YE/BU) FOR AN OPEN 
      • Key in OFF position.
      • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014a.
      • Disconnect: Parking Aid Radar Sensor C4191.
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid radar sensor C4191-4, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), harness side and the parking aid module C4014a-14, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), harness side.

      • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B22.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B8 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-GN21 (BK/OG) FOR AN OPEN 
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-4, circuit 31S-GN21 (BK/OG), harness side and the parking aid radar sensor C4191-3, circuit 31S-GN21 (BK/OG), harness side.

      • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B9.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B9 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN21 (WH/BU) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid radar sensor C4191-2, circuit 8-GN21 (WH/BU), harness side and the parking aid module C4014a-16, circuit 8-GN21 (WH/BU), harness side; and between the parking aid radar sensor C4191-2, circuit 8-GN21 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.

      • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the parking aid radar sensor and the parking aid module, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the parking aid radar sensor and ground? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new parking aid sensor. REFER TO PARKING AID SENSOR  in this article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B10 CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
      • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014a.
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), harness side and ground; and between the parking aid module C4014a-14, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), harness side and ground.

      • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B11.
      • No  : GO to  B22.
    • B11 CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND IN THE LH PARKING AID SENSOR 
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), harness side and ground while disconnecting the LH and RH parking aid sensors.

      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-14, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), harness side and ground while disconnecting the parking aid radar sensor.

      • Does the resistance change to greater than 10,000 ohms after disconnecting the parking aid sensor(s)? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new parking aid sensor in question. REFER TO PARKING AID SENSOR  in this article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B12 CHECK CIRCUIT 20-GN10 (PK/YE) FOR VOLTAGE 
      • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
      • Key in ON position.
      • Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014b-12, circuit 20-GN10 (PK/YE), harness side and ground.

      • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B22.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B13 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN12 (WH/BU) FOR A SHORT 
      • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-9, circuit 8-GN12 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B22.
      • No  : GO to  B14.
    • B14 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN12 (WH/BU) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
      • Disconnect: Parking Aid Switch C9011.
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-9, circuit 8-GN12 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new parking aid switch. REFER to PARKING AID SWITCH  in this article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B15 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMPS OPERATION 
      • Apply the parking brake.
      • Key in ON position.
      • Select REVERSE.
      • Check the reversing lamps operation.
      • Do the reversing lamps illuminate? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B16.
      • No  : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING to continue diagnosis of the reversing lamps.
    • B16 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN11 (WH/RD) FOR VOLTAGE 
      • Key in OFF position.
      • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
      • Key in ON position.
      • Select REVERSE.
      • Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014-11, circuit 8-GN11 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.

      • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B22.
      • No  : GO to  B17.
    • B17 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN11 (WH/RD) FOR AN OPEN 
      • Key in OFF position.
      • Disconnect: Rear Electronic Module (REM) C420b.
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014-11, circuit 8-GN11 (WH/RD), harness side and the REM C420b-4, circuit 8-AD15 (WH/BU), harness side.

      • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B23.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B18 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN14 (WH/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
      • Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-8, circuit 8-GN14 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B20.
      • No  : GO to  B19.
    • B19 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN14 (WH/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND IN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE 
      • Disconnect: ABS C155.
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-8, circuit 8-GN14 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK CONTROL . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B20 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN14 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
      • Disconnect: ABS C155.
      • Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-8, circuit 8-GN14 (WH/BK), harness side and the ABS C115-39 (with stability assist) or C155-6 (without stability assist), circuit 8-GN14 (WH/BK), harness side.

      • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B22.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B21 CHECK THE PARKING AID MODULE SENSORS FOR CORRECT ALIGNMENT 
      NOTE: If the vehicle has been in an accident, the parking aid module sensors may not be aligned correctly.
      • Check the bumper for correct alignment. Refer to ELEVATION SYSTEM CHECK  in this article.
      • Check the parking aid sensor(s) and bezel(s) for correct adjustment. Refer to AZIMUTH SYSTEM CHECK  in this article.
      • Are the bumper and parking aid sensors correctly aligned? 
      • Yes  : GO to  B22.
      • No  : INSTALL a new bumper. REFER to BUMPERS . If the vehicle has been in an accident, further body work may be required to bring the parking aid sensors into correct alignment.
    • B22 CHECK FOR CORRECT PARKING AID MODULE OPERATION 
      • Disconnect all the parking brake module connectors.
      • Check for:
        • corrosion
        • pushed-out pins
      • Connect all the parking aid module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
      • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
      • Is the concern still present? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new parking aid module. REFER to PARKING AID MODULE  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
      • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • B23 CHECK FOR CORRECT REM OPERATION 
      • Disconnect all the REM connectors.
      • Check for:
        • corrosion
        • pushed-out pins
      • Connect all the REM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
      • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
      • Is the concern still present? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new REM. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
      • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
