Diagnostics Deactivation Procedure (Seats Removed)

NOTE: The following diagnostics deactivation procedure should not be used when replacing air bag system components. If replacing air bag system components, see COMPONENT REPLACEMENT DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE  .

This procedure should only be used when performing air bag system diagnostics or repairs.

  1. Record pre-set radio frequencies for reprogramming. Disconnect negative battery cable. Also, disconnect any auxiliary batteries and power supplies, if equipped. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy.
  2. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect Air Bag Simulator (418-F395/014-R1079) to clockspring side of upper clockspring connector (in place of air bag module).
  3. Remove glove box. See GLOVE BOX  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module harness connector. See Figure . Connect Air Bag Simulator (418-F395/014-R1079) to vehicle harness side of passenger-side air bag module connector (in place of air bag module).
  4. Remove front seats. See FRONT SEAT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Install Air Bag Simulators (418-133/40-009) on right and left side air bag vehicle harness connectors.
  5. Access and disconnect left front seat belt pretensioner harness connector. See SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect Air Bag Simulator (418-F088/105-R0012) to vehicle harness side of left front seat belt pretensioner connector. Access and disconnect right front seat belt pretensioner harness connector. Connect Air Bag Simulator (418-F088/105-R0012) to vehicle harness side of right front seat belt pretensioner connector. Reconnect negative battery cable.
WARNING: Unintentional air bag module deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. The following general deactivation procedure should not be used when performing air bag diagnostics or repairs. See COMPONENT REPLACEMENT DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE  or DIAGNOSTICS DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE  .
