Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCS)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select MODEL YEAR and VEHICLE. Select DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK. Select RCM. Select DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES. Select RETRIEVE/CLEAR CONTINUOUS DTCs.
  2. After pressing START, all continuous DTCs will be displayed on scan tool screen. Record DTCs displayed for reference. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION  table. When historical DTCs are cleared, they cannot be retrieved.
