Possible Causes

Light flash code 5 times per second could be caused by both front seats not installed, both side air bag modules not correctly installed or a RCM internal fault.

1. Check AIR BAG warning light flash codes
   
   Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If AIR BAG warning light is flashing rapidly (5 times per second) with no pauses, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light is flashing with pauses, go to diagnostic trouble code identification table for direction to appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION  table.
2. Check front seat installation
   
   Check both front seats for proper installation. If both front seats are properly installed, go to next step. If front seats are not installed correctly, properly install seat(s) and perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
3. Check side air bag installation
   
   Check right side and left side air bag modules for proper installation. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If both side air bag modules are correctly installed, go to next step. If side air bag modules are not correctly installed, properly reinstall and perform system operation check.
   NOTE: By disconnecting RCM connector C310B, left and right side air bag loop circuit will be shorted through a shorting bar. Do not remove shorting bar.
4. Check side air bag loop resistances
   
   Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Leave negative battery cable disconnected. Access RCM and disconnect harness connector C310B. See RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect air bag simulators from left side and right side air bag module harness connectors. Zero ohmmeter. Measure resistance between Red/Green wire (circuit No. 30S-JA37) and Black/Green wire (circuit No. 31S-JA37) of left side air bag module harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Measure resistance between Red/Black wire (circuit No. 30S-JA38) and Black/Red wire (circuit No. 31S-JA38) of right side air bag module harness connector. If resistance is more than one ohm for both measurements, repair open in appropriate circuit. Reconnect air bag system. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear all DTCs. See CLEARING FAULT CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS. If resistance is less than one ohm for both measurements, replace RCM. Reconnect air bag system. Activate air bag system. Clear all DTCs.
