Charcoal Canister: Installation

- Lubricate all "O" rings with MERPOL® "O" Ring Seal Lubricant or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M99B144-B. To install EVAP canister and bracket assembly, reverse removal procedure. Tighten EVAP canister bracket assembly bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Raise subframe into contact with body and hand-start rear subframe bolts. Align location marks made during removal. Tighten rear subframe bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install 2 NEW lower rear shock mount bolts and tighten to specification. Connect left and right side rear brake lines. Position brake line junction block bracket and install bolt. Tighten junction block bracket bolt to specification. Connect rear brake line to junction block.
- Connect 2 parking brake cables to junction bracket located at rear of fuel tank. Connect 2 rear parking brake cables at rear caliper assemblies. Connect 2 rear anti-lock brake sensor harness connectors. Slide driveshaft rearward until flexible coupling engages with differential companion flange.
- Install shims in their original position and loosely install center bearing bracket bolts. Align driveshaft index marks made during removal. Match bolts, washers, attaching nuts and balance nuts (if equipped) to their original locations and install flex coupling. Avoid twisting center bearing bracket and tighten center bearing bracket bolts evenly. Tighten all bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install rear heat shield and muffler exhaust system. Install fuel filler hose and tighten clamp. Install rear wheel and tire assemblies. Bleed brake system. Refill fuel tank. Check and adjust rear alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES - CARS article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT. Test drive vehicle and ensure no vibration exists. Perform after repair procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE .
NOTE:
EVAP canister assembly must be leak-tested prior to installation on vehicle.
NOTE:
Ensure subframe clears fuel filler tube and that differential pinion stem aligns with driveshaft.
NOTE:
Place 0.04 ounce of Premium Long Life Grease, XG-1-K or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B, in alignment bushing prior to driveshaft installation.
NOTE:
Ensure original shims are installed between center bearing bracket and floor pan. Tighten flex coupling bolts and nuts using hand tools only.
