Pinpoint Test A: DTC B2328 - STEERING COLUMN REACH (TELESCOPIC) FEEDBACK POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT FAILURE

CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
  1. A1 CHECK FOR CONTINUOUS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Continuous DTCs.
    • Is DTC B2328 present? 
    • Yes  : GO to  A7.
    • No  : GO to  A2.
  2. A2 CHECK FOR MECHANICAL FAULTS 
    • Disconnect and reconnect the battery.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Clear Instrument Cluster DTCs.
    • Actuate the steering column to the full IN position.
    • Actuate the steering column to the full OUT position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Self-Test.
    • Is DTC B2328 present? 
    • Yes  : GO to  A3.
    • No  : The system was deactivated due to the instrument cluster registering an excessive number of motion faults. NOTIFY the owner that the concern has been corrected.
  3. A3 CHECK THE STEERING COLUMN BEARINGS 
    • Remove the steering column shrouds.
    • Make sure the steering column bearings are fully seated back against the stops.
    • Are the steering column bearings correctly seated back against the stops? 
    • Yes  : GO to  A4.
    • No  : INSTALL a new steering column. REFER to STEERING COLUMN  in this article . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. A4 ISOLATE THE STEERING COLUMN POSITION SENSOR 
    • Disconnect: Steering Column Position Sensor C222.
    • Connect a jumper wire between the steering column position sensor C222-4, circuit 9-AL17 (BN/WH), harness side and the steering column position sensor terminal 1.

    • Connect a jumper wire between the steering column position sensor C222-2, circuit 7-AL17 (YE/VT), harness side and the steering column position sensor terminal 4.
    • Connect a jumper wire between the steering column position sensor C222-3, circuit 8-AL17 (WH/VT) and the steering column position sensor terminal 3.
    • Connect a jumper wire between the steering column position sensor C222-1, circuit 8-AL16 (WH/BK) and the steering column position sensor terminal 2.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Self-Test.
    • Is DTC B2328 retrieved? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new steering column. REFER to STEERING COLUMN  in this article . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to  A5.
  5. A5 CHECK FOR STEERING COLUMN MOVEMENT 
    NOTE: This active command will only power the motors for 1 second.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Tilt Motor UP Command.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Tilt Motor DOWN Command.
    • Does the steering column tilt up and down? 
    • Yes  : GO to  A7.
    • No  : GO to  A6.
  6. A6 ISOLATE THE TILT/TELESCOPE MOTOR 
    • Disconnect: Tilt/Telescope Motor C227.
    • Connect a voltmeter between the tilt/telescope motor C227-3, circuit 35-AL7 (VT/BK), harness side and the tilt/telescope motor -C2274, circuit 34-AL7 (BU/BK), harness side.

    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Telescope Motor IN Command.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Telescope Motor OUT Command.
    • Measure the voltage while triggering the active commands.
    • Is voltage present for one second after each command is sent? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new telescope motor. REFER to STEERING COLUMN  in this article . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to  A7.
  7. A7 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-AL17 (WH/VT) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
    • Measure the voltage at the instrument cluster C220c-20, circuit 8-AL17 (WH/VT), harness side.

    • Is voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to  A8.
  8. A8 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-AL17 (WH/VT) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220c-20, circuit 8-AL17 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  A9.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  9. A9 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-AL17 (WH/VT) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220c-20, circuit 8-AL17 (WH/VT), harness side and steering column position sensor C222-3, circuit 8-AL17 (WH/VT), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
