Parking System: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Drain transmission fluid. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION. Remove Transmission Range (TR) sensor. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR  .
  2. Remove transmission oil pan and filter. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION.
  3. CAUTION: To avoid damage, make sure the wrench does not strike the manual valve inner lever pin.
  4. Remove the manual control valve detent spring. See Figure . Remove the manual valve inner lever nut. See Fig 1 . Remove the manual lever shaft retaining pin. See Fig 2 .
  5. Partially remove the manual control lever shaft. See Fig 3 . Disconnect the manual valve inner lever from the parking lever actuating rod. See Fig 4 . Remove the manual valve inner lever. See Fig 5 .
  6. Remove extension housing. See EXTENSION HOUSING & SEAL  . Remove and discard the extension housing gasket.
  7. Inspect the parking pawl, parking pawl return spring, and the parking pawl shaft. See Fig 6 . Discard components if damaged or worn. Remove the parking lever actuating rod. See Fig 7 .
