Control Valve Body: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln LS and 2002 Ford Thunderbird. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Raise and support the vehicle. Drain the transmission fluid. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION. Remove the converter housing plug. Remove the torque converter drain plug. See Figure .
  2. Remove the shifter cable bracket. See Figure . Clean the area around connector to prevent contamination of the solenoid body connector. Disconnect the transmission harness connector. See Fig 1 . Disconnect the Transmission Range (TR) sensor connector.
  3. NOTE: The transmission fluid pan gasket is reusable. Clean and inspect for damage. If not damaged, the gasket should be reused.
  4. Remove the transmission fluid pan and filter. See DRAINING & REFILLING  under LUBRICATION. Disconnect the reverse pressure switch connector. See Fig 2 . Remove the reverse pressure switch and discard. See Fig 3 . Remove the solenoid body. See Fig 4 .
  5. Remove the valve body cover plate and gasket. See Fig 5 . Remove the reverse servo. See Fig 6 . Remove the manual control valve detent spring. See Fig 7 . Remove the control valve body, separator plate and gasket. See Fig 8 . Remove the intermediate clutch spring and seal. See Fig 9 .
