Removal and Installation

CAUTION:
Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect the performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number must be installed if installation is necessary. Do not use a new part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- If equipped, remove the right upper shock mount cover.
- If equipped, remove the retainers and the left upper shock mount cover.
- Remove and discard the shock absorber upper mount-to-body nuts.
- To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
- Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link-to-lower arm nut, then disconnect the stabilizer bar link.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
- Remove and discard the shock absorber-to-lower arm nut and bolt, then remove the shock absorber and spring assembly.
- To install, tighten to 175 m (129 lb-ft).

- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
WARNING:
Do not remove the center nut. This nut holds the upper spring mount in place and if this nut is removed the spring tension will be released. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
NOTE:
The hex-holding feature can be used to prevent turning of the stud while removing the nut.
CAUTION:
Make sure the shock absorber lower bushing end caps are in place before installing the bolt and nut.
