No-Start/Normal Crank: Notes
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 32 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mercury Sable, 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, 2002 Mercury Cougar, and 2002 Lincoln Town Car. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Extended cranking, due to a no-start condition, can load exhaust system with raw fuel, which can damage catalytic converter after engine is started.
After repairing a no-start condition on models with electric Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system, disconnect AIR solid state relay. Start and run engine until surplus fuel is used, and then reconnect relay. Disconnecting AIR solid state relay may set a Continuous Memory DTC. After repairs are completed, clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V - GASOLINE & NGV article.
