Pinpoint Test L: The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Keypad Illumination Is Inoperative: Testing

  1. L1 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Keypad C500.
    • Measure the resistance between the RKE keypad C500-6, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to L2.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  2. L2 CHECK CIRCUIT 66 (LB) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
    • Measure the resistance between the RKE keypad C500-2, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and ground; and between the RKE keypad C500-2, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and the SJB C2280c-12, circuit 66 (LB), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the RKE keypad and ground, and less than 5 ohms between the RKE keypad and the SJB? 
    • Yes  : GO to L3.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. L3 CHECK THE RKE KEYPAD ILLUMINATION 
    • Connect: Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Keypad C500.
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the SJB C2280c-12, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and the positive battery terminal.

    • Does the RKE keypad illuminate? 
  4. L4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . PROGRAM all RKE transmitters. REFER to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING . INFORM the customer that any RKE transmitters not present need to be programmed. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
