Pinpoint Test L: The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Keypad Illumination Is Inoperative: Testing

- L1 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Keypad C500.
- Measure the resistance between the RKE keypad C500-6, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to L2.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- L2 CHECK CIRCUIT 66 (LB) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
- Measure the resistance between the RKE keypad C500-2, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and ground; and between the RKE keypad C500-2, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and the SJB C2280c-12, circuit 66 (LB), harness side.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the RKE keypad and ground, and less than 5 ohms between the RKE keypad and the SJB?
- Yes : GO to L3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- L3 CHECK THE RKE KEYPAD ILLUMINATION
- Connect: Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Keypad C500.
- Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the SJB C2280c-12, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and the positive battery terminal.
- Does the RKE keypad illuminate?
- Yes : GO to L4.
- No : INSTALL a new RKE keypad. REFER to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- L4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . PROGRAM all RKE transmitters. REFER to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING . INFORM the customer that any RKE transmitters not present need to be programmed. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
