DTC P117A: Engine Oil Over Temperature - Forced Limited Power

P117A - ENGINE OIL OVER TEMPERATURE - FORCED LIMITED POWER

Description:  Indicates the engine oil protection strategy is enabled when the engine oil temperature reaches a predetermined level in the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM then limits the engine RPMs until the engine oil temperature returns to normal.
Possible Causes: 
  • Engine overheating
  • Low engine coolant
  • Loaded weight is greater than the maximum vehicle weight rating. Refer to Owner's Literature for vehicle weight ratings.
Diagnostic Aids:  This DTC is an informational DTC and may be set by an engine overheating concern. If the engine overheats, check the cooling system. Refer to the appropriate Engine Cooling article, the engine overheats symptom to continue diagnosis.
