Pinpoint Test E: DTC P0833 - Clutch Pedal Switch B Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Ford Pickup, 2005 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2005 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2005 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. E1 CHECK THE CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION (CPP) SWITCH
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) C175b.
    • While pressing and releasing the clutch pedal, measure the resistance between the PCM C175b-32, circuit 306 (TN/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms with the clutch pedal pressed, and less than 5 ohms with the clutch pedal released?
    • Yes  : Go to  E5.
    • No  : GO to E2.
  2. E2 CHECK CIRCUIT 306 (TN/LB) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) Switch C277.
    • Measure the resistance between the PCM C175b-32, circuit 306 (TN/LB), harness side and the CPP switch C277-4, circuit 306 (TN/LB), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    • Yes  : GO to E3.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. E3 CHECK CIRCUIT 570 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between the CCP switch C277-3, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    • Yes  : GO to E4.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. E4 CHECK CIRCUIT 306 (TN/LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Measure the resistance between the PCM C175b-32, circuit 306 (TN/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new CPP switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. E5 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
    • Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - GASOLINE ENGINES . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
