Test Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 32 other vehicles, including the 2005 Mercury Sable, 2005 Mercury Mountaineer, 2005 Mercury Monterey, 2005 Mercury Montego, and 2005 Mercury Mariner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- TA1 DTC P0704, P0830: CHECK THE CPP SWITCH CAUTION: Apply vehicle park brake. Make sure that the vehicle is secured with wheel chocks.
-
- For code P0704 use CPP/ code P0830 use CPP BT.
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Select the CPP, CPP BT PID and monitor for an ON/OFF PID state while performing the following:
- Press and release the clutch pedal several times.
NOTE: During self-test, the clutch pedal must be down and gearshift lever in NEUTRAL.Does the reading cycle when the CPP switch is activated?
Yes No Suspect an intermittent circuit fault.
Inspect connectors for signs of damage, water ingress, corrosion. REPAIR as necessary.Key in OFF position.
GO to TA2. -
- TA2 CHECK THE SWITCH CIRCUIT RESISTANCE
- Switch location(s):
- The CPP switch is located near the clutch pedal.
- INSPECT the switches and brackets for damage. Repair as necessary.
- CPP connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
(+) CPP Connector, Component Side (-) CPP Connector, Component Side CPP/CPP-BT SIGRTN - Measure the CPP switch resistance with the clutch pedal down.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to TA3. INSTALL a new CPP. - TA3 CHECK THE CPP FOR INTERNAL SHORTS
- Measure the resistance between:
(+) CPP Connector, Component Side (-) CPP Connector, Component Side CPP/CPP-BT SIGRTN - Measure the CPP switch resistance with the clutch pedal UP.
Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes No GO to TA4. INSTALL a new CPP. - Measure the resistance between:
- TA4 CHECK THE CPP / CPP BT AND SIGRTN CIRCUIT(S) FOR AN OPEN IN THE HARNESS
- PCM connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
(+) PCM Connector, Harness Side (-) CPP Connector, Harness Side CPP/CPP-BT CPP/CPP-BT SIGRTN SIGRTN
Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to TA5. REPAIR the open circuit. - TA5 CHECK THE CPP / CPP BT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between:
(+) CPP Connector, Harness Side (-) CPP/CPP-BT Ground
Is the voltage less than 1 V?
Yes No Key in OFF position.
GO to TA6.REPAIR the short circuit to PWR. - TA6 CHECK THE CPP / CPP BT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND IN THE HARNESS
Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes No INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) . REPAIR the short circuit.
