Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Mercury Milan and 2011 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the EGR valve electrical connector.
  2. Disconnect the exhaust manifold-to-EGR valve tube fitting from the EGR valve.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  3. Remove the 2 bolts and the EGR valve.
    • Discard the gasket.
    • To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  4. NOTE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges that make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system module gasket.
    NOTE: If there is no residual gasket material present, metal surface prep can be used to clean and prepare the surfaces.
  5. Clean the mating surfaces of any residual gasket material.
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install a new EGR valve gasket.
