Vehicles Equipped with Aisin AW21 Transaxle

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Mercury Milan and 2011 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The intermediate shaft seal functions as a dust seal and is not a source of a red ATF leak.

If the leak is red ATF, this indicates the transaxle seal is leaking and needs to be replaced. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - AISIN AW21 -- FUSION & MKZ article.

If the leak is tan/brown/black gear lube, the PTU cover seal is leaking and needs to be replaced. This cover seal is located on the PTU cover, behind the deflector. For additional information, refer to COVER SEAL  procedure in this service information.
