Removal and Installation

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
- Remove the LH and RH valve covers. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - LH and VALVE COVER - RH in this service information.
- Remove the 6 spark plugs.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
- Remove the 4 screws and position the RH fender splash shield aside.
- Remove the 6 pin-type retainers (4 shown in the illustration) and the RH splash shield.
- Rotate the crankshaft until the camshaft lobe is pointing directly away from the roller follower.
- Using the Valve Spring Compressor, remove the roller followers.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
NOTE:
Mark the positions of the roller followers to make sure they are assembled in their original positions.
NOTE:
Lubricate the roller followers with clean engine oil.
