Pinpoint Test G: DTC C1992 - Vehicle Speed Circuit Failure

Normal Operation 

The Parking aid module (PAM) receives the vehicle speed signal (VSS) on circuit 679 GY/BK which is hard wired from the PCM.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

PINPOINT TEST G: DTC C1992 - VEHICLE SPEED CIRCUIT FAILURE 

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. G1 RECHECK THE PAM DTCs 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: PAM Self-Test
    • Clear the DTCs. Repeat the PAM self-test.
    • Is DTC C1992 still present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G2.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to a previous condition.
  2. G2 CHECK THE VSS CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Parking Aid System Inline Harness C406
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the resistance between the parking aid system inline harness C406-10, circuit 679 (GY/BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  G3.
  3. G3 CHECK THE VSS CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure the resistance between the PCMC175b-1, circuit 676 (PK/OG), harness side and the parking aid system inline harness C406-6, circuit 676 (PK/OG), harness side.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. G4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the PAM connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to Parking Aid Module (PAM) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
