Pinpoint Test I: The Heated Seat Is Inoperative - Driver
- I1 CHECK HEATED SEAT SWITCH INPUT TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag Module C315
- Connect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-133 to Driver Seat Side Air Bag C315
- Disconnect: Heated Seat Module C681
- Measure resistance between:
- heated seat module C681-11, circuit 1020 (DG/VT), harness side and ground.
- heated seat module C681-12, circuit 1255 (WH/RD), harness side and ground while pressing the heated seat switch.
- Are resistances less than 50 ohms when the heated seat switch is pressed and greater than 10,000 ohms when the heated seat switch is not pressed?
- I2 CHECK HEATED SEAT SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT 57 (BK)
- Disconnect: Driver Heated Seat Switch C538
- Measure resistance between driver heated seat switch C538-1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES
: INSTALL a new heated seat switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- NO
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- I3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1048 (LB/WH) FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
- Measure voltage between:
- heated seat module C681-1, circuit 1048 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.
- heated seat module C681-17, circuit 1048 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is voltage greater than 10 volts?
WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.- YES : Go to I4.
- NO
: VERIFY Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 16 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM ARTICLE to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- I4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1040 (RD/BK) FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure voltage between heated seat module C681-2, circuit 1040 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to I5.
- NO
: VERIFY Central Junction Box (CJB) fuse 17 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM ARTICLE to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- I5 CHECK HEATED SEAT MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT 676 (PK/OG)
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure resistance between heated seat module C681-7, circuit 676 (PK/OG), harness side and ground.
- Is resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to I6.
- NO
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- I6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1064 (YE/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Cushion Heater C364
- Key in ON position.
- Measure voltage between driver seat cushion heater C364-1, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- YES
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- NO : Go to I7.
- I7 CHECK CIRCUIT 1064 (YE/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure resistance between:
- driver seat cushion heater C364-1, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and C681-9, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side.
- driver seat cushion heater C364-1, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is resistance less than 5 ohms between driver seat cushion heater and heated seat module and greater than 10,000 ohms between driver seat cushion heater and ground?
- YES : Go to I8.
- NO
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- I8 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure resistance between driver seat cushion heater C364-4, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to I9.
- NO
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- I9 CHECK HEATED SEAT MATS FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure resistance between:
- cushion heater C364 pins 1 and 4, component side.
- cushion heater C364 pin 1, component side and ground.
- Is resistance between 1.6 and 10 ohms between cushion heater pins 1 and 4 and greater than 10,000 ohms between cushion heater and ground?
- Measure resistance between:
- I10 CHECK SEAT BACKREST HEATER RESISTANCE
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Backrest Heater Connector
- Measure resistance between driver seat backrest heater pin 1 and pin 2, seat backrest heater component side.
- Is resistance between 0.6 and 1.2 ohm?
- YES
: INSTALL a new driver seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- NO
: INSTALL a new driver seat backrest heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- I11 CHECK HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure voltage between:
- heated seat module C681-13, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
- heated seat module C681-10, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is voltage present on either circuit?

- YES
: REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- NO : Go to I12.
- I12 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CIRCUITS
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure resistance between:
- heated seat module C681-13, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and C681-10, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side.
- heated seat module C681-13, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is resistance between 50 ohms and 300,000 ohms between heated seat module pins 13 and 10 and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground?
- YES
: INSTALL a new heated seat module. REFER to Heated Seat Module - Front Seat . TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- NO : Go to I13.
- I13 CHECK CIRCUIT 1061 (BN/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure resistance between:
- heated seat module C681-13, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and the driver seat cushion heater C364-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side.
- heated seat module C681-13, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is resistance less than 5 ohms between heated seat module and seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between heated seat module and ground?
- YES : Go to I14.
- NO
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- Measure resistance between:
- I14 CHECK CIRCUIT 1060 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure resistance between:
- heated seat module C681-10, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and driver seat cushion heater C364-2, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side.
- heated seat module C681-10, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground?
- YES
: INSTALL a new driver seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- NO
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag C315. CONNECT driver seat side air bag C315. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- Measure resistance between:
