Pinpoint Test A: The Instrument Cluster (Ic) Is Inoperative

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. A1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) VOLTAGE SUPPLY WITH KEY ON 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster (IC) C220
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster (IC), harness side and ground as follows:
      Connector-Pin Circuit
      C220-17 1003 (GY/YE)
      C220-19 640 (RD/YE)
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A2.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the CJB fuses 8 (10A) and 13 (10A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. A2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) VOLTAGE SUPPLY WITH KEY OFF 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster (IC) C220-1, circuit 1566 (RD/YE), harness side and ground.
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A3.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the CJB fuse 25 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. A3 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) GROUND CIRCUITS

    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster (IC), harness side and ground as follows:
      Connector-Pin Circuit
      C220-2 676 (PK/OG)
      C220-18 57 (BK)
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster (IC) connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster (IC) connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
