Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Mariner and 2010 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

LH side 

  1. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL). For additional information, refer to AIR CLEANER .

    RH side 

  2. NOTE: The upper intake manifold must be removed to access the RH ignition coils only.
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold. For additional information, refer to UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD .

    Both sides 

  4. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connectors.
  5. NOTE: When removing the ignition coils, a slight twisting motion will break the seal and ease removal.
  6. Remove the bolts and the ignition coils.
    • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots before attaching to the spark plugs.
