Pinpoint Test D: Select Shift Does Not Operate/O/D Does Not Cancel (Vehicles Equipped With A 3.5L Engine)

  1. D1 TEST BJB FUSE 47 (10A) 
    • Check fuse: Battery Junction Box (BJB) 47 (10A).
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes:  GO to  D2.
    • No:  REPAIR circuit CBK03 (GY) for a short to ground. INSTALL a new fuse. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. D2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE SELECTOR LEVER CONNECTOR 
    • Disconnect: Selector Lever Electrical C3233.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between selector lever harness C3233-8, circuit CBK03 (GY), vehicle harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes:  GO to  D4.
    • No:  GO to  D3.
  3. D3 TEST THE SELECT SHIFT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: BJB Fuse 47 (10A).
    • Measure the resistance between the output side of BJB fuse 47 (10A) and selector lever harness C3233-8 circuit CBK03 (GY), vehicle harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes:  INSTALL a new BJB  .
    • No:  REPAIR circuit CBK03 (GY) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. D4 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER CONNECTOR FOR GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between selector lever C3233-11, circuit RE407 (YE/VT) (Fusion) or circuit GD116 (BK/VT) (MKZ) and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes:  GO to  D5.
    • No:  REPAIR circuit RE407 (YE/VT) (Fusion) or circuit GD116 (BK/VT) (MKZ) for an open. TEST system for normal operation.
  5. D5 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR LEVER SELECT SHIFT SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Transmission Control Module (TCM) C1533.
    • Measure the resistance between TCM  C1533-3, circuit CET43 (GY) and ground.

    • Measure the resistance between TCM  C1533-4, circuit CET42 (GN/VT) and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes:  GO to  D6.
    • No:  REPAIR circuit CET43 (GY) or circuit CET42 (GN/VT) for a short to ground. TEST system for normal operation.
  6. D6 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR LEVER SELECT SHIFT SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between TCM  C1533-3, circuit CET43 (GY) and selector lever C3233-9.

    • Measure the resistance between TCM  C1533-4, circuit CET43 (GY) and selector lever C3233-10.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes:  INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to Installation  (Fusion/Milan) or Installation . TEST the system for normal operation. If the condition still exists, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to INSTALLATION .
    • No:  REPAIR circuit CET43 (GY) or circuit CET42 (GN/VT) for an open. TEST system for normal operation.
