PINPOINT TEST H: DTCs C1095 AND C1096 - ABS HYDRAULIC PUMP MOTOR CIRCUIT FAILURE/OPEN

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
  1. H1 CHECK FOR ABS MODULE DTCs
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Clear ABS Module DTCs
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Self Test ABS Module
    • Carry out the ABS module self-test. Retrieve and record all ABS module DTCs.
    • Are DTCs C1095 or C1096 present?
    1. YES  : Go to  H2.
    2. NO  : For all other DTCs, go to the ABS Module DTC Chart.
  2. H2 CHECK THE ABS PUMP MOTOR
    • Key in ON position.
    • Is the ABS pump motor running all the time?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new ABS module and hydraulic control unit (HCU). REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module  and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)  in this article. Using the scan tool, CARRY OUT the IVD (ESC) initialization sequence. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  H3.
  3. H3 CHECK THE ABS MODULE PUMP MOTOR OUTPUT COMMAND (ABS_MTR)
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger ABS Module
    • Toggle the ABS_MTR output command ON.
    • Does the ABS pump motor run for approximately 2 seconds?
    1. YES  : TOGGLE the ABS_MTR output command OFF. Go to  H4.
    2. NO  : TOGGLE the ABS_MTR output command OFF.

CLEAR the DTCs. CYCLE the ignition switch. RETRIEVE and RECORD the ABS module DTCs.

If DTC C1095 is retrieved, go to  H5.

If DTC C1096 is retrieved, INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module  in this article. Using the scan tool, CARRY OUT the IVD (ESC) initialization sequence. CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.

  4. H4 CHECK FOR RETURNING ABS MODULE DTCs
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: ABS Module DTCs
    • Retrieve and record the ABS module DTCs.
    • Are any DTCs present?
    1. YES  : If DTC C1096 is retrieved, go to  H7.

If DTC C1095 is retrieved, INSTALL a new HCU. REFER to Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)  in this article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

For all other ABS module DTCs, go to the ABS Module DTC Chart.

    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
  5. H5 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE ABS MODULE
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C155
    • Key in ON position.
    • Fig 1: Checking Voltage To ABS Module
