The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is a 2 wire thermistor device in which resistance changes with temperature change. The resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases, and the resistance increases as the temperature decreases. The varying resistance affects the voltage drop across the sensor and provides electrical signals to the PCM corresponding to temperature. The PCM uses this information to determine Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) operation.
