Valve Cover - LH: Removal

  1. Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION article.
  2. Remove the engine air cleaner and the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
  3. Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the PCV valve tube. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.

  5. Remove the 2 bolts and position the LH fuel charging wiring harness aside.

  7. Disconnect the LH 5 fuel injector electrical connectors.

  9. Disconnect the LH 5 ignition coil electrical connectors.

  11. Disconnect the push pin retainers from the PCM bracket.

  13. Lift the fuel charging wiring harness off the valve cover studs.

  15. Remove the oil level indicator and tube support bracket nut.

  17. Remove the bolt and position the oil level indicator and tube aside.

  19. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the valve cover studs.

    CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to clean the sealing surfaces.
    NOTE: The fasteners are part of the valve cover and should not be removed.
  21. Remove the LH valve cover.
    • Fully loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.
    • Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
    • Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
