Normal Operation

The vehicle speed information is provided by the output shaft speed sensor (OSS) to the PCM. The PCM provides the vehicle speed information to the instrument cluster (IC) over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) communication bus. If the instrument cluster (IC) fails to receive the speed input data from the PCM, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0100 and the speedometer defaults to the zero stop. If the instrument cluster receives invalid data, the instrument cluster sets DTC U2023 and the speedometer defaults to the zero stop.

The instrument cluster (IC) receives odometer rolling count status from the PCM and stores the mileage in non-volatile memory (NVM). When the instrument cluster (IC) fails to receive the odometer rolling count status for more than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0100 and the odometer display to all dashes. If the instrument cluster receives invalid data, the instrument cluster sets DTC U2023 and the odometer display to all dashes.
