Pinpoint Test W: The Reversing Lamps Are On Continuously

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. W1 CHECK CIRCUIT 140 (BK/PK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280c
    • Key in ON position.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  W2.
  2. W2 CHECK FOR VEHICLE CONTENT 
    • Check the vehicle and determine the transaxle type.
    • Is the vehicle equipped with an automatic transaxle? 
    1. YES  : Go to  W3.
    2. NO  : Go to  W5.
  3. W3 CHECK THE PCM INPUT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: SJB C2280c
    • Disconnect: PCM C175
    • Key in ON position.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  W4.
    2. NO  : REFER to the AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - CD4E article or AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) article to continue diagnosis of the transaxle.
  4. W4 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220
    • Key in ON position.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  W7.
    2. NO  : Go to  W8.
  5. W5 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMP SWITCH 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Reversing Lamp Switch C169
    • Key in ON position.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  W6.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new reversing lamp switch. REFER to Reversing Lamp Switch . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. W6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1789 (VT/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280b

    • Measure the resistance between the reversing lamp switch C169-1, circuit 1789 (VT/WH), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  W7.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  7. W7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  8. W8 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
