Pinpoint Test J: The Keyless Entry Keypad Illumination Is Inoperative

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
  1. J1 CHECK FOR CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND DTCs 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Retrieve continuous and on-demand DTCs with the scan tool.
    • Is DTC B1626 retrieved? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J2.
    2. NO  : Go to  J4.
  2. J2 CHECK FOR CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND DTCs 
    • Disconnect: Keyless Entry Keypad C500
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB DTCs
    • Repeat the continuous and on-demand self-test with the scan tool.
    • Is DTC B1626 still present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J3.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new keyless entry keypad. REFER to Keyless Entry Keypad . TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. J3 CHECK CIRCUIT 66 (LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND  
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d

    • Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280d-23, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J8.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear the DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. J4 CHECK THE SJB KEYPAD SWITCH PIDs  
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB Keypad PIDs
    • Press each keypad button while viewing SJB keypad PIDs.
    • Do the PID values agree with the keypad button positions?  
    1. YES  : Go to  J5.
    2. NO  : Go to Pinpoint Test I .
  5. J5 CHECK CIRCUIT 570 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN  
    • Disconnect: Keyless Entry Keypad C500

    • Measure the resistance between the keyless entry keypad C500-5, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?  
    1. YES  : Go to  J6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. J6 CHECK THE SJB OUTPUT FUNCTION

    • While measuring the voltage between the keyless entry keypad C500-2, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and ground, connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the keyless entry keypad C500-1, circuit 78 (LB/YE), harness side and the keyless entry keypad C500-6, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the jumper wire is connected? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new keyless entry keypad. REFER to Keyless Entry Keypad . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REMOVE the jumper wire. Go to  J7.
  7. J7 CHECK CIRCUIT 66 (LB) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d

    • Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280d-23, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and the keyless entry keypad C500-2, circuit 66 (LB), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J8.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. J8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION  
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?  
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear the DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
