Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Latches
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 2 (25A)
    • Smart junction box (SJB) fuse 9 (30A)
    • Circuitry
    • Remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter
    • Keyless entry keypad
    • Door lock control switch
    • SJB
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  5. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  6. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  7. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
    • Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
    • Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article, No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
  8. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • Verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnose no response from the powertrain control module (PCM).
  9. Carry out the network test:
    • If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  10. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
  11. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
  12. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .
SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX

DTC Description Action
B1300 Power Door Lock Circuit Failure VERIFY the SJB fuse 9 (30A) is OK. If OK, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
B1396 Power Door Lock Circuit Short to Battery CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the on-demand self-test. If DTC B1396 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
B1397 Other Doors - Unlock All Relay Coil Circuit Short to Battery CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the on-demand self-test. If DTC B1397 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
B1626 Lamp Keypad Output Short Circuit to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test J .
B1982 Driver's Door Unlock Relay Circuit Failure VERIFY the SJB fuse 9 (30A) is OK. If OK, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
B2111 All Door Lock Input Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test B .
B2250 All Doors Unlock Relay Circuit Failure VERIFY the SJB fuse 9 (30A) is OK. If OK, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
B2425 Remote Keyless Entry Out of Synchronization Go to Pinpoint Test E .
B2695 Keypad_A Switch Circuit Failure Go to Pinpoint Test I .
B2696 Keypad_B Switch Circuit Failure Go to Pinpoint Test I .
B2697 Keypad_C Switch Circuit Failure Go to Pinpoint Test I .
All other DTCs - REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
