P0A03 - Motor Electronics Coolant Temperature (MECT) Sensor Circuit High

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P0A03 - MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLANT TEMPERATURE (MECT) SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH

Description:  An open circuit on this input or a short to VREF, produces a high voltage (approximately 5 volts) to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM activates the high speed fan, and the motor electronics coolant pump. A 10 mV difference exists between an open circuit/short to VREF, and a valid sensor reading at -40°C (-40°F).
Possible Causes:
  • Motor electronics cooling system concerns
  • Damaged MECT sensor
  • MECT harness concerns
  • Damaged transaxle
  • Damaged PCM
Diagnostic Aids:
Application  Key On Engine Off  Key On Engine Running  Continuous Memory
