Hard Start Or Long Crank

NOTE:
Alternative fuel engine cranking time is normally longer than gasoline engine cranking time. Check vehicle for add-on anti-theft devices. They may disable starting system.
- Check charging system. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
- Check secondary ignition system. See TEST JB under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (GASOLINE) article.
- Check fuel delivery system. See TEST HC under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (BI-FUEL) article.
- Check air intake system, see TEST HU under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (GASOLINE) article.
- Check exhaust system for restriction. See TEST HF under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (GASOLINE) article.
- Check EVAP Emission system for blockages or leaks. See SYSTEM TESTS (EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS) in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (GASOLINE) article.
- Check PCV system. See TEST HG under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (GASOLINE) article.
- Check starting system. See appropriate STARTERS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
- Visually inspect Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor for contamination.
- If no concern is found, see TEST Z under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V article and check for intermittent faults.
