Test D: Charge Warning Indicator Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Ford Mustang and 1999 Ford Mustang. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect generator 3-pin connector. With ignition on, engine off, connect a 15-amp fused jumper wire between generator 3-pin connector terminal "I" (Light Green/Red wire) and ground. If charge warning indicator does not illuminate, diagnose instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - MUSTANG in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Check system operation.
  2. On 3.8L engines, if indicator illuminates, replace voltage regulator and check system operation. See VOLTAGE REGULATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. On 4.6L engines, if indicator illuminates, replace generator. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
