Removal (Lower Intake Manifold)

  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Release fuel pressure, and disconnect fuel lines. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE & FUEL LINE CONNECTIONS .
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold. See Removal (Upper Intake Manifold: 2000 Model Year)  or Removal (Upper Intake Manifold: 2001 Model Year) .
  4. Remove both the valve covers.
  5. Disconnect the fuel pulse damper. Disconnect the electrical connector. Disconnect the vacuum tube. See Fig 1.

  6. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring harness from the fuel injectors. See Fig 2.

  7. Remove the four bolts. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors as an assembly. See Fig 3.

  8. On 2000 models, disconnect the heater hose, engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor and coolant temperature sender (CTS). See Fig 4.

  9. On 2001 models, disconnect the heater hose and coolant temperature sender (CTS). See Fig 5. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor and the degas bottle hose. See Fig 6.

  10. On all models, disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. See Fig 7.

  11. CAUTION: Do NOT remove the entire CMP synchronizer assembly from the engine block.

  12. Disconnect the CMP electrical connector (1). Remove the screws (2) and the CMP. See Fig 8.
  13. Remove the bolts and remove the lower intake manifold. See Fig 9.

  14. Remove the intake manifold gaskets and the end seals. See Fig 10.
