Axle Shafts: Removal
- Remove wheel assembly. Remove axle hub nut and washer. Discard nut. Remove bolt attaching brake hose to strut. Remove and discard bolt and nut retaining lower ball joint to steering knuckle.
- Remove ABS sensor, and secure aside. Disconnect stabilizer bar at steering knuckle. Pry down on control arm assembly to separate ball joint from steering knuckle.
- Using slide hammer with Extension (T86P-3514-A2), disengage inner CV joint from transaxle. See Figure. Support inner axle shaft assembly with wire to keep axle shaft level during outer CV joint removal. Use Hub Remover/Installer (T81P-1104-C) to push CV joint out of hub assembly. See Figure. Remove axle shaft from vehicle.
NOTE:
If both axles are removed, install Shipping Plugs (T81P-1177-B) to prevent differential side gears from moving. If side gears move, remove transaxle to realign side gears.
