Except Sable & Taurus
Release parking brake fully. Place transmission in Neutral. Raise and support vehicle. While supporting tensioner, remove retaining clip. See Fig 1. On some models, tensioner spring will automatically take up any cable slack and preload parking brake cables. On models where cable tension slack is not automatically reduced, have an assistant apply parking brake. Repeat application of parking brake as necessary to reduce slack. On all models, reinstall retaining clip. Lower vehicle, and check parking brake operation.
