Test X: Door Ajar Warning Chime Does Not Operate Properly

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Monitor Generic Electronic Module (GEM) PIDs IGN_KEY, IGN_S, IGN_R and IGN_A while cycling ignition switch through all position. If PIDs agree with ignition switch position, go to next step. If PIDs does not agree with ignition switch position, perform TEST V: KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY  .
  2. Using NGS tester, select GEM active command CHIME. Trigger CHIME active command on and off. If chime operates properly, go to next step. If chime does not operate properly, go to step  17 .
  3. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_DR_SW while opening and closing driver's door. If PID agrees with door position, go to next step. If PID does not agrees with door position, go to step  5 .
  4. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID P_DR_SW while opening and closing passenger's door. If PID agrees with door position, go to step  17 . If PID does not agrees with door position, go to step  11 .
  5. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_DR_SW while opening and closing driver's door. If PID always indicates AJAR, go to next step. If PID does not always indicate AJAR, go to step  8 .
  6. Disconnect driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_DR_SW. If PID still indicates AJAR, go to next step. If PID now indicates CLOSED, replace driver's door ajar switch.
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C292. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 13 (Yellow/Black wire) at GEM harness connector C292. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step  17 . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire.
  8. Disconnect driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506. Using a fused jumper wire, ground Yellow/Black wire terminal at driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_DR_SW. If PID does not indicate AJAR, go to next step. If PID indicates AJAR, go to step  10 .
  9. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C292. Measure resistance in Yellow/Black wire between driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506 and terminal No. 13 at GEM harness connector C292. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  17 . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Black wire.
  10. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal at driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace driver's door ajar switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  11. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID P_DR_SW while opening and closing passenger's door. If PID always indicates AJAR, go to next step. If PID does not always indicate AJAR, go to step  14 .
  12. Disconnect passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID P_DR_SW. If PID still indicates AJAR, go to next step. If PID now indicates CLOSED, replace passenger's door ajar switch.
  13. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C292. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 5 (Green/Red wire) at GEM harness connector C292. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step  17 . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Green/Red wire.
  14. Disconnect passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601. Using a fused jumper wire, ground Green/Red wire terminal at passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID P_DR_SW. If PID does not indicate AJAR, go to next step. If PID indicates AJAR, go to step  16 .
  15. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C292. Measure resistance in Green/Red wire between passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601 and terminal No. 5 at GEM harness connector C292. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  17 . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Green/Red wire.
  16. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal at passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace passenger's door ajar switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  17. Disconnect all GEM harness connectors. Inspect connectors for pushed out pins or corrosion. Reconnect all GEM harness connectors, ensuring they are correctly connected. Operate system and verify is concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace GEM. If concern is not present, system is okay at this time.
