Test W: Air Bag Warning Chime Does Not Operate Properly
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, perform Restraint Control Module (RCM) self-test. If no RCM DTCs exist, go to next step. If any RCM DTCs exist, repair air bag system as necessary. See lemon-25(R) AIR BAG SERVICE & REPAIR MANUAL, DOMESTIC & IMPORTED MODELS.
- Using NGS tester, monitor Generic Electronic Module (GEM) PIDs IGN_KEY, IGN_S, IGN_R and IGN_A while cycling ignition switch through all position. If PIDs agree with ignition switch position, go to next step. If PIDs does not agree with ignition switch position, perform TEST V: KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY

- Using NGS tester, select GEM active command CHIME. Trigger CHIME active command on and off. If chime operates properly, go to next step. If chime does not operate properly, go to step 8
.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disarm air bag system. See appropriate
AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Disconnect RCM harness connector C276. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID ABCHIME. If PID indicates ON, go to next step. If PID does not indicate ON, go to step 6
.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Ensure RCM harness connector C276 is disconnected. Disconnect GEM module harness connector C352. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 10 (Light Blue/Black wire) at GEM harness connector C352. See Figure
. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 8
. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Light Blue/Black wire.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Ensure GEM module harness connector C352 and RCM harness connector C276 are disconnected. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 10 (Light Blue/Black wire) at GEM harness connector C352. See Figure
. If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Light Blue/Black wire.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance in Light Blue/Black wire between terminal No. 26 at RCM harness connector C276 and terminal No. 10 at GEM harness connector C352. See Figure

. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire.
- Disconnect all GEM harness connectors. Inspect connectors for pushed out pins or corrosion. Reconnect all GEM harness connectors, ensuring they are correctly connected. Operate system and verify is concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace GEM. If concern is not present, system is okay at this time.
