Test K: Low Engine Coolant Indicator Never/Always On
NOTE:
Before testing, ensure engine coolant level is correct.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If low coolant indicator is not illuminated, go to next step. If low coolant indicator is illuminated, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select instrument cluster active command CLNTLAMP. Trigger active command CLNTLAMP on. If low coolant indicator illuminates, go to next step. If low coolant indicator does not illuminate, replace bulb or instrument cluster as necessary.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect low coolant sensor harness connector C137. Using a fused jumper wire, ground Light Blue wire terminal at low coolant sensor harness connector C137. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If low coolant indicator illuminates, go to next step. If low coolant indicator does not illuminate, repair open in Light Blue wire.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and Yellow/Red wire terminal at low coolant sensor harness connector C137. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace low coolant sensor. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Red wire or Black/White wire between low coolant sensor and ground.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect low coolant sensor harness connector C137. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If low coolant indicator is illuminated, go to next step. If low coolant indicator is not illuminated, replace low coolant sensor.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and Light Blue wire terminal at low coolant sensor harness connector C137. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Light Blue wire. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster.
