Test E: Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor & Output Shaft Speed Sensor
NOTE:
Ensure transaxle harness connectors are fully seated and in good condition before proceeding.
- Electronic Diagnostics Set Up
Connect NGS tester to DLC. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select the following commands:- DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK
- PCM
- Select TRANS PRIORITY
- Select PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD
- Select PIDs TSS Or OSS Sensor
- Drive Cycle Test
While monitoring appropriate sensor PID, drive vehicle so that transaxle upshifts and downshifts through all gears. If TSS or OSS sensor speed PID increase and decrease with engine and vehicle speed, go to next step. If TSS or OSS sensor speed PID does not increase and decrease with engine and vehicle speed, inspect for open or short circuit in wiring, faulty sensor, PCM concern or internal hardware concern, then go to step 4 . - Drive Cycle Test Erratic
While monitoring appropriate sensor PID, drive vehicle so transaxle upshifts and downshifts through all gears. If TSS or OSS sensor PID signal is erratic (jumping from zero or near zero and returning to normal operation), inspect for intermittent concern in wiring, connector or sensor. If sensor signal is not erratic, clear all DTCs and recheck self-diagnostic system. - Check PCM & Harness For Power
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect TSS or OSS sensor wire connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and TSS or OSS sensor wire connector terminals (White/Green wire and Brown/White wire for TSS sensor, White/Blue wire and Brown/Blue wire for OSS sensor). If any voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, go to step 6 . - Check Harness For Short To Power
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and TSS or OSS sensor wire connector terminals (White/Green wire and Brown/White wire for TSS sensor, White/Blue wire and Brown/Blue wire for OSS sensor). If any voltage is present, repair short to power in appropriate wire and retest system operation. If no voltage is present, replace PCM and retest system operation. - Check PCM & Harness For Ground
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and TSS or OSS sensor wire connector terminals (White/Green wire and Brown/White wire for TSS sensor, White/Blue wire and Brown/Blue wire for OSS sensor). If resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 8 . If any resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. - Check Harness For Short To Ground
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and TSS or OSS sensor wire connector terminals (White/Green wire and Brown/White wire for TSS sensor, White/Blue wire and Brown/Blue wire for OSS sensor). If resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, replace PCM and retest system operation. If any resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in appropriate wire and retest system operation. - Check Resistance Of TSS Sensor Or OSS Sensor
Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between TSS or OSS sensor terminals. See TSS SENSOR RESISTANCE or OSS SENSOR RESISTANCE table. If all resistances are as specified, go to next step. If any resistance is not as specified, replace appropriate sensor and retest system operation.TSS SENSOR RESISTANCETemperature °F (°C) Ohms -4 (-20) 273-333 68 (20) 330-390 302 (160) 487-601 OSS SENSOR RESISTANCETemperature °F (°C) Ohms -4 (-20) 675-775 68 (20) 800-920 302 (160) 1210-1390 - Check Sensors For Short To Ground
Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and TSS or OSS sensor terminal (White/Green wire for TSS sensor, White/Blue wire OSS sensor). If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace appropriate sensor and retest system operation. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING to diagnose shift or torque converter concerns.
