Test H: DTC C1285 - Brake Booster Solenoid Output Failure

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Perform brake booster recalibration procedure. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTC C1285 is retrieved, or brake booster portion of recalibration procedure indicates failed, go to next step. If any other DTC is retrieved, see TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are retrieved, TCS is operating correctly.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake booster connector (C829). Using DVOM, measure resistance between brake booster connector terminal No. 3 (component side) and brake booster solenoid terminal No. 4, component side. If resistance is 1-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 1-2 ohms, replace brake booster. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Recalibrate TCS module.
  3. Disconnect TCS connector (C830). Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between TCS connector terminal No. 8 (Green/Yellow wire) and ground. Measure voltage between TCS connector terminal No. 24 (Black/Yellow wire) and ground. If voltage is present at any point, repair faulty circuit. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Recalibrate TCS module. If voltage is not present at any point, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between TCS connector terminal No. 8 (Green/Yellow wire) and brake booster connector terminal No. 3 (Green/Yellow wire). Measure resistance between TCS connector terminal No. 8 (Green/Yellow wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between TCS connector and brake booster connector; and greater than 10 k/ohms between TCS connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms between TCS connector and brake booster connector; and not greater than 10 k/ohms between TCS connector and ground, repair Green/Yellow wire. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Recalibrate TCS module.
  5. Measure resistance between TCS connector terminal No. 24 (Black/Yellow wire) and brake booster connector terminal No. 4 (Black/Yellow wire). Measure resistance between TCS connector terminal No. 24 (Black/Yellow wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between TCS connector and brake booster connector; and greater than 10 k/ohms between TCS connector and ground, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms between TCS connector and brake booster connector; and not greater than 10 k/ohms between TCS connector and ground, repair Black/Yellow wire. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Recalibrate TCS module.
  6. Reconnect brake booster connector. Turn ignition to START position (engine running). Wait a few minutes to create engine vacuum in brake booster. Turn ignition off. Connect a fused (10-amp) jumper wire between TCS connector terminal No. 24 (Black/Yellow wire) and ground. Connect a fused (10-amp) jumper wire for several seconds between TCS connector terminal No. 8 (Green/Yellow wire) and positive battery post while observing brake pedal for movement. If brake pedal moves, replace TCS module. If brake pedal does not move, replace brake booster. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Recalibrate TCS module.
