Rear Brake Shoes (2000): Installation

  1. Use Silicone dielectric compound to lubricate brake shoe contact pads. Install parking brake return spring to secondary shoe. Install strut support to secondary shoe and move strut support upward. Install primary shoe to strut and brake shoe adjuster. Install upper return spring. Install lower return spring.
  2. Connect parking brake cable to parking brake cable anchor on secondary brake shoe. Remove rubber band holding wheel cylinder pistons in place. Connect shoes to wheel cylinder.
  3. Install brake shoes on backing plate, and install brake shoe hold-down spring clips.
  4. Install brake drum. On models with anti-lock brakes, install wheel speed sensor. Install wheels. Operate brake pedal to achieve automatic adjustment.
