Possible Causes

Driver-side air bag circuit resistance low or shorted together could be caused by Green/Red and Black/Orange wires shorted to ground or together, short to ground in clockspring, short to ground in driver-side air bag module, or damaged or inoperative RCM.

  1. Check driver-side air bag module

Turn ignition off. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform on-demand self-test. See ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST  under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC B1887 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1887 is not retrieved, replace driver-side air bag module. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear DTCs. Repeat on-demand self-test.
  2. Check driver-side air bag module wiring

Turn ignition off. Access RCM and disconnect harness connector C424. See RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect driver-side air bag module simulator. Measure resistance between ground and RCM harness connector C424, terminal No. 2 (Green/Red wire). Measure resistance between ground and RCM harness connector C424, terminal No. 3 (Black/Orange wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace RCM. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear DTCs. Repeat on-demand self-test. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
  3. Check driver-side air bag module wiring

Disconnect lower clockspring connector. Measure resistance between ground and RCM harness connector C424, terminal No. 2 (Green/Red wire). Measure resistance between ground and RCM harness connector C424, terminal No. 3 (Black/Orange wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear DTCs. Repeat on-demand self-test. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Green/Red or Black/Orange wire. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear DTCs. Repeat on-demand self-test.
