Test M: Console Blower Motor Does Not Operate

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Lincoln Navigator and 1999 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Check Fuse No. 7 (5-Amp)

Check fuse No. 7 (5-amp) located in junction box fuse/relay panel. If fuse is okay, go to step 7)  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  2. Test System For Normal Operation

Replace fuse No. 7. Turn ignition to run (engine off). Place function selector switch in MAX A/C position. Place blower motor switch in HI position. If console blower motor operates, system is functioning normally. If console blower motor does not operate, go to next step.
  3. Recheck Fuse No. 7

Turn ignition off. Recheck fuse No. 7. If fuse is okay, go to step 7)  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  4. Check Console Blower Motor For Short

Replace fuse No. 7. Disconnect console blower motor harness connector. Turn ignition to run (engine off). Set EATC panel to MAX A/C position. Turn ignition off. Check fuse No. 7. If fuse is okay, replace console blower motor. Retest system. If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  5. Check Yellow/Red Wire Circuit For Short

Turn ignition off. Disconnect console blower relay connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Red wire between console blower motor connector and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Yellow/Red wire. Retest system.
  6. Check Pink/Light Blue Wire Circuit For Short

Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between console blower motor relay connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace console blower motor relay. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Pink/Light Blue wire. Retest system.
  7. Check White/Violet Wire Circuit For Battery Power

Remove fuse No. 7. Measure voltage of White/Violet wire between instrument panel fuse block fuse No. 7 cavity and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair White/Violet wire. Retest system.
  8. Check Console Blower Motor

Turn ignition off. Reinstall fuse No. 7. Disconnect console blower motor connector. Turn ignition to run (engine off). Set EATC panel to MAX A/C position. Place blower motor switch in HI position. Measure voltage between console blower motor connector Brown and Yellow/Red wire terminals. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace console blower motor. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  9. Check Yellow/Red Wire Circuit For Voltage

Measure voltage of Yellow/Red wire between console blower motor connector and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 14)  .
  10. Check Console Blower Motor Resistor Ground

Turn ignition off. Disconnect console blower motor resistor connector. Measure resistance of Orange/Black wire between console blower motor resistor connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to step 12)  .
  11. Check Brown Wire Circuit For Open

Measure resistance of Brown wire between console blower motor resistor connector and console blower motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace console blower motor resistor. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Brown wire. Retest system.
  12. Check Black Wire Circuit For Open

Disconnect Rear Integrated Control Panel (RICP) connector located at rear of center console. Measure resistance of Black wire between RIPC connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black wire. Retest system.
  13. Check Orange/Black Wire Circuit For Open

Measure resistance of Orange/Black wire between console blower motor resistor connector and RICP connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RICP module. Retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Orange/Black wire. Retest system.
  14. Check Console Blower Relay For Battery Power

Disconnect console blower relay connector. Measure voltage between console blower relay connector Pink/Light Blue wire and Yellow/Black wire terminals. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 17)  .
  15. Check Light Blue Wire Circuit For Battery Power

Measure voltage of Light Blue wire between console blower relay connector and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Light Blue wire. Retest system.
  16. Check Yellow/Red Wire Circuit For Open

Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of Yellow/Red wire between console blower relay connector and console blower motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace console blower relay. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Yellow/Red wire. Retest system.
  17. Check Pink/Light Blue Wire Circuit For Open

Measure voltage of Pink/Light Blue wire between console blower relay connector and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Pink/Light Blue wire. Retest system.
  18. Check Yellow/Black Wire Circuit For Open

Turn ignition off. Disconnect EATC module connector (C281). Measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between console blower relay connector and EATC module connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace EATC module. Retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Yellow/Black wire. Retest system.
