Test L: Auxiliary Blower Motor Does Not Operate

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Lincoln Navigator and 1999 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Check Fuse No. 13 (30-Amp)

Check power distribution box fuse No. 13. If fuse is okay, go to step 7)  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  2. Verify Auxiliary Blower Motor Is Inoperative

Replace fuse No. 13. Turn ignition to run position (engine off). Press MAX A/C button. Place front auxiliary blower motor switch in HI position. If auxiliary blower motor operates, system is okay. If auxiliary blower motor does not operate, go to next step.
  3. Check Fuse No. 13 (30-Amp)

Turn ignition off. Check fuse No. 13 again. If fuse is okay, go to step 7)  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  4. Check Auxiliary Blower Motor For Short

Turn ignition off. Disconnect auxiliary blower motor connector. Turn ignition to run position (engine off). Press MAX A/C button. Measure resistance of Black/Light Green wire between auxiliary blower motor and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace auxiliary blower motor. Retest system. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Check Black/Light Green Wire Circuit For Short

Turn ignition off. Disconnect auxiliary blower motor relay connector. Measure resistance of Black/Light Green wire between auxiliary blower motor and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Black/Light Green wire. Retest system.
  6. Check Pink/White Wire Circuit For Short

Measure resistance of Pink/White wire between auxiliary blower motor relay and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace auxiliary blower motor relay. Retest system. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Pink/White wire. Retest system.
  7. Check Fuse No. 7 (5-Amp)

Check instrument panel fuse block fuse No. 7 (5-amp). If fuse is okay, go to step 11)  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  8. Check Auxiliary Blower Motor Operation

Replace fuse No. 7. Turn ignition to run position (engine off). Press MAX A/C button. Place front auxiliary blower motor switch in HI position. If auxiliary blower motor operates, system is okay at this time. If auxiliary blower motor does not operate, go to next step.
  9. Recheck Fuse No. 7 (5-Amp)

Turn ignition off. Check fuse No. 7. If fuse is okay, go to step 11)  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  10. Check Pink/Light Blue Circuit Wire For Short

Disconnect auxiliary blower motor relay. Measure resistance of Pink/Light Blue wire between auxiliary blower motor relay connector and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace relay. Retest system. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair open in Pink/Light Blue wire. Retest system.
  11. Check White/Violet Wire Circuit For Open

Remove fuse No. 7. Turn ignition to run (engine off). Measure voltage between fuse junction panel No. 7 socket and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair White/Violet wire. Retest system.
  12. Check Auxiliary Blower Motor

Turn ignition off. Reinstall fuse No. 7. Disconnect auxiliary blower motor harness connector. Turn ignition to run (engine off). Press MAX A/C button. Place front auxiliary blower motor switch in HI position. Measure voltage between Black/Light Green and Orange/Red wire terminals of blower motor connector. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace auxiliary blower motor. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  13. Check Voltage To Auxiliary Blower Motor

Measure voltage between Black/Light Green wire of auxiliary blower motor connector and ground. Measure voltage of Orange/Red wire between blower motor connector and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 16)  .
  14. Check Black Wire Circuit For Open

Turn ignition off. Disconnect front auxiliary blower motor switch harness connector. Measure resistance of Black wire between switch connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black wire. Retest system.
  15. Check Orange/Red Wire Circuit For Open

Measure resistance of Orange/Red wire between auxiliary blower motor connector and front auxiliary blower motor switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace blower motor switch. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Orange/Red wire. Retest system.
  16. Check Pink/White Wire Circuit For Open

Disconnect auxiliary blower motor relay harness connector. Measure voltage of Pink/White wire between relay connector and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Pink/White wire. Retest system.
  17. Check Voltage To Auxiliary Blower Motor Relay

Measure voltage between Yellow/Black wire and Pink/Light Blue wire terminals of blower motor relay connector. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 19)  .
  18. Check Black/Light Green Wire Circuit For Open

Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of Black/Light Green wire between auxiliary blower motor relay connector and auxiliary blower motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace blower motor relay. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black/Light Green wire.
  19. Check Pink/Light Blue Wire Circuit For Open
