Test H: Console Blower Motor Does Not Operate

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Check Fuse No. 7 (5-Amp)

Check fuse No. 7 in instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to step 5)  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  2. Test System Operation

Replace fuse No. 7. Turn ignition to run position (engine off). Place function selector switch in MAX A/C position. Place console selector switch in HI position. If console blower motor operates, system is okay at this time. If blower motor does not operate, go to next step.
  3. Recheck Fuse No. 7 (5-Amp)

Check fuse No. 7 in instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to step 5)  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  4. Check Console Blower Motor For Short

Disconnect console blower motor connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Red wire between blower motor connector and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace console blower motor. Retest system. Is resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Yellow/Red wire. Retest system.
  5. Check Brown/Orange Wire Circuit For Battery Power

Remove fuse No. 7. Turn ignition to run (engine off). Place function selector switch in MAX A/C position. Measure voltage of Brown/Orange wire between each side of fuse block socket and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Brown/Orange wire. Retest system.
  6. Check Console Blower Motor

Turn ignition off. Reinstall fuse No. 7. Disconnect console blower motor connector. Turn ignition to run (engine off). Place rear control panel blower switch in HI position. Measure voltage between Yellow/Red and Brown wire terminals of console blower motor connector. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace console blower motor. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  7. Check Yellow/Red Wire Circuit For Voltage

Measure voltage of Yellow/Red wire between console blower motor connector and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Yellow/Red wire. Retest system.
  8. Check Console Blower Motor Resistor Ground

Turn ignition off. Disconnect console blower motor resistor connector. Measure resistance of Orange/Black wire between resistor connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to step 10)  .
  9. Check Brown Wire Circuit For Open

Measure resistance of Brown wire between console blower motor connector and console blower motor resistor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace console blower motor resistor. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Brown wire. Retest system.
  10. Check Black Wire For Open

Disconnect Rear Integrated Control Panel (RICP) connector located in floor console panel. Measure resistance of Black wire between RICP connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black wire. Retest system.
  11. Check Orange/Black Wire For Open

Measure resistance of Orange/Black wire between console blower motor resistor connector and RICP connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RICP. Retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Orange/Black wire. Retest system.
