Test U: Low Washer Indicator Inoperative Or Always On (Expedition Models Only)

NOTE: After repair, clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
  1. Use Generic Electronic Module (GEM) DTCs recorded from self-tests. If B1454 is present, go to step  3. If B1456 is present, go to step  5. If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect GEM/CTM 16-pin connector. Connect 5-amp fused jumper wire between GEM/CTM 16-pin connector terminal No. 14 and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. See Fig 1. If low washer fluid warning indicator illuminates, repair as necessary. See WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS - EXPEDITION & NAVIGATOR article. If low washer warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect GEM/CTM 16-pin connector. Disconnect instrument panel 22-pin connector. Measure resistance between GEM/CTM 16-pin connector terminal No. 14 and instrument panel 22-pin connector terminal No. 7. See Figure and Fig 1 . If all resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Yellow wire.
  4. Measure resistance between GEM/CTM 16-pin connector terminal No. 14 and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  6. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Pink/Yellow wire.
  5. Disconnect GEM/CTM 16-pin connector. Disconnect instrument panel 22-pin connector. Measure voltage between GEM/CTM 16-pin connector terminal No. 14 and ground. See Fig 1. If there is any voltage, repair short to power in Pink/Yellow wire. If there is no voltage, go to step  7.
  6. Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors. Inspect connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
  7. Disconnect all GEM/CTM connectors. Inspect connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all GEM/CTM connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace GEM/CTM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE/CENTRAL TIMER MODULE (GEM/CTM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
