Test T: Fuel Reset Indicator Inoperative Or Always On (1999 Models Only)

NOTE: After repair, clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
  1. Check operation of FUEL RESET indicator by setting and resetting fuel inertia shutoff switch. If FUEL RESET indicator operates correctly, system is okay. If FUEL RESET indicator never illuminates, go to next step. If FUEL RESET indicator is always on, go to step  4.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect inertia fuel shutoff switch connector. Connect 5-amp fused jumper wire between inertia fuel shutoff switch connector Gray/Orange wire terminal and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If FUEL RESET indicator illuminates, replace inertia fuel shutoff switch. If FUEL RESET indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument panel 20-pin connector. Measure resistance of Gray/Orange wire between inertia fuel shutoff switch and instrument panel 20-pin connector terminal No. 14. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step  5. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray/Orange wire.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect inertia fuel shutoff switch connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If FUEL RESET indicator illuminates, repair Gray/Orange wire short to ground. If FUEL RESET indicator does not illuminate, replace inertia fuel shutoff switch.
  5. Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors. Inspect connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
